A little bit about Hackathon.
Hackathon is a great chance to innovate and solve real life problems in a creative way. It´s a startup style event to find innovative solutions for different problems. It can also be a first step of your own startup career. Here we are learning presenting our ideas, or if you want you can also join a team, and during 48 hours doing brainstorming and ending up to build a prototype.
This hackathon attracted a very large number of individuals presenting their challenges and the presentations alongside the event included very high profile guest speakers such as Estonian ex-prime minister, CEOs of unicorns etc. During the few days of this hackathon, teams improved their pitched ideas: created logo designs, prototypes of their websites, platforms etc.
Every challenge is an opportunity to grow
There were 250 participants all around the world, 4 different tracks and challenges and 50 teams. newHorizons attended FUTURE OF EDUCATION TRACK powered by EBS. In this track our challenge was how to bridge the skill gap between demanded and available skills of the workforce on the job market.
48 Hours …
Although from one side it was challenging and felt a bit stressful to build a prototype during the last 48 hour, from the other side the positive team spirit and support kept us moving forward. Our team was quite diverse , vibrant and dynamic. We brainstormed and did several other activities together such as filling the Value Proposition Canvas ,Business Model Canvas, getting trained in pitching and so on.
The most exciting part was pitching the business idea in front of the investors and a huge auditorium.I remember when I stepped to the stage I was happy and nervous at the same time. I was happy because I got a chance to present and let more people know about the newHorizons ,and I was nervous because they were real investors who were ready to invest.
Although we could not win in this competition but it was a great learning experience for all of us. Specially working under limited time , in tense situation with multi tasks.
As a conclusion I would like to say that if you have an idea and it’s just running in your head from here and there and you do not know how to put all of them together then definitely take the hackathon challenge. The process itself forces you to think and design the amount of things that in normal life time it would take from you months.
